Shelly Darlington (Anna Faris) is a Playboy bunny who lives happily in the Playboy mansion until after her twenty-seventh birthday where she is kicked out of the mansion due to her age. She accidentally bumps into a mini Playboy mansion and enters the house only to realize it belongs to one of the sorority house in the Greek Row of a university. There she meets Mrs. Hagstrom (Beverly D’Angelo), housemother of the sorority called Phi Iota Mu. Mrs. Hagstrom rejects Shelly from joining them as a housemother but one of the housemothers gives Shelly a hint about another sorority house called Zeta Alpha Zeta, which really needs a housemother.
Zeta Alpha Zeta needs to get thirty new pledges in order to keep the houses. When Natalie (Emma Stone) sees that Shelly is able to attract boys, she immediately accepts her as a housemother. Shelly teaches the girls about makeup and men and even throws a super cool party.
Shelly receives a call from Hugh M. Hefner (as himself) who then invites Shelly to come back to the mansion and tells her that she will be on November centerfold. She turns him down initially but calls him back and return to the mansion after the girls have blamed her for making them into somebody else.
The new make-over and the super cool party have attracted many new applications. However, the cunning Phi Iota Mu girls steals the applications which means the Zeta girls will lose the house. Shelly ditches the photo shoot for Playboy centerfold and gives a last speech to save Zeta. Her message about external beauty which won’t last forever wins the heart of many, which leads to thirty new pledges including one from an existing Phi Iota Mu girl and the girls get to keep the house.
Overall, it may be pink, blonde and girly but the movie is quite decent. Anna Faris played the character so well, I could not think of any other actress that fits the bill better. The House Bunny might not be the coolest ever movie for the genre, but it’s nice. So nice.
